KEYSWAP: Keyboard Enhancer (version 1.3)
KEYDEF: Keyboard Table Definer (version 1.0)
To demonstrate the KEYSWAP program, perform the following:
----------------------------------------------------------
1) Insert the KEYSWAP distribution disk in drive A. Set your default
directory to the directory containing KEYSWAP.EXE and its
associated files. Then invoke KEYSWAP using the following command:
KEYSWAP SAMPLE.KBD
KEYSWAP responds with a message identifying itself and indicating
that SAMPLE.KBD has been successfully loaded.
2) Press ALT-K followed by 1. (NOTE: Use the "1" key at the top of the
keyboard, not the "1" key on the keypad). This sequence activates
keyboard #1 and enables the sample key translations.
3) Press the @. If KEYSWAP is working correctly, you should see the
message "SAMPLE KEYBOARD". Now press apostrophe (') followed by
the letter e. When you press the apostrophe, nothing will appear
on your screen until you press the e. At that point, an accented-e
(é) will appear. The keyboard table SAMPLE.KBD contains seven
keystroke changes as follows:
Enter... to produce...
@ SAMPLE KEYBOARD
ALT-S Summer Institute of Linguistics<CR>
'a á
'e é
'i í
'o ó
'u ú
4) You may experiment want with these key translations. They should
work fine not only at the DOS prompt, but also when you are using
an editor or running any application program.
5) To disable the sample key translations, press ALT-K followed by 0.
This causes KEYSWAP to change back to keyboard #0 and thereby
"turns off" the key translation.
6) Refer to the documentation in KEYSWAP.DOC for information on how to
create your own custom keyboard translation tables, and for more
details on how to use KEYSWAP and its companion program KEYDEF.
